In sum: For a full switch to leakproof underwear, a total of 5-8 pairs would be a good average - 2-3 for overnight and 3-5 daytime pairs. A few extra pairs may be handy, if you're behind on washing or if your flow is unpredictable.

Your first step is to track your current use of period products. How often do you empty a full menstrual cup or how many pads, tampons or liners do you use throughout your monthly cycle? Then compare this to the our absorbency explanations in our absorbency guide.

Which absorbency you choose really depends on your flow and whether you do a full switch or combine with other period products, e.g. the menstrual cup or tampon. 

It can be nice to have a few different absorbency levels at hand. Higher absorbency for overnight and light absorbency for the last days of your period is a great place to start. Moderate absorbency is for most people sufficient for bleed days.

The heavier flow, the more often you need to change. With a light flow, one pair can most likely last you a full day. With a moderate or heavier flow, you would want to change more often, around every 4-8 hours. A good indication that it is time to change to a new pair is when you notice the seams are getting wet.

Super easy, honestly. You can machine wash them at 30°C with your regular washing cycle. It won’t stain your other clothing since you rinse the underwear in cold water after use, if bloody.

Rinsing out the blood after use might need some getting used to for some people, but otherwise it is super straightforward. Wear, rinse, wash, dry, reuse.

Just avoid bleaching, tumble drying and ironing your leakproof underwear, as this may ruin the leakproof layer.
